Research abstract

To meet the demands of the N251-048 ìAnalog to Digital Converter for Low Noise EM Measurementsî program, the MaXentric Technologies (MaXentric) team proposes the NEMO (Noise-free Electromagnetic Monitoring Oscilloscope) solution, which provides an ultra-low noise/wide dynamic range specialized digitizer/digital oscilloscope in hydrostatic pressure environment for underwater electromagnetic (UEM) sensor applications. The team leverages the thermal noise reduction technique generated in a commercial high-resolution analog-to-digital converter (ADC) chip component, which dominates the signal-to-noise ratio, and the digital post-distortion process for suppressing harmonics and intermodulation, which also causes the errors in the ADC chip component. During Phase I works, the team will demonstrate feasibility of the noise reduction technique using a commercial evaluation board, and trade-study amount of noise reduction using post distortion algorithms. Toward Phase II demonstration, the team will make a plan for developing ultra-low noise digitizer/oscilloscope protypes for updating UEM sensor systems in Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA).Ý
