Research abstract

Montuno Health proposes an AI-driven digital transformation project to modernize operations at Department of the Air Force (DAF) Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs). By integrating advanced Agentic Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotic Process Automation (RPA), and predictive analytics, the initiative targets two critical healthcare pillars: Pharmacy and Primary Care. Current MTF workflows, reliant on manual data entry and fragmented processes, face bottlenecks that delay care, impose administrative burdens, and diminish patient throughput. The core solution builds on Montuno’s DosePharm and RxBOT platforms, which have already shown success in Air Force MTF pilots. DosePharm streamlines pharmacy operations by digitizing prescription activation, patient engagement, and claims processing, while RxBOT automates repetitive administrative tasks. This Phase II effort extends those capabilities with AI-driven features to reduce manual patient intake, enhance medication adherence tracking, optimize scheduling, and support near real-time decision-making. Seamless interoperability with MHS GENESIS ensures secure and bidirectional data flow.Technical objectives include: (1) Automating patient registration and intake to cut waiting times and paperwork; (2) Implementing AI-enhanced pharmacy workflows to shrink prescription turnaround and claims rejection rates; (3) Integrating predictive analytics to preemptively flag at-risk patients and improve adherence; and (4) Demonstrating robust system security and compliance with Defense Health Agency (DHA) and DoD mandates. The approach encompasses requirements gathering, iterative prototype development, user acceptance testing, and operational deployment. AI modules will be refined using real-world data from MTF pharmacy and primary care interactions to ensure high accuracy and adaptability.Expected outcomes are significantly faster patient throughput, improved medication adherence, and reduced manual workload for healthcare staff, ultimately strengthening readiness and force health protection. Post-deployment monitoring will measure metrics such as reduction in processing time, fewer medication errors, and enhanced patient satisfaction. The final deliverables include a fully integrated AI automation framework, performance analytics, and a scalable deployment strategy for broader Air Force and DoD adoption. By eliminating paperwork bottlenecks and harnessing actionable data, this project offers a transformative leap in medical logistics and patient care across DAF MTFs.
