Research abstract

In order to be prepared for conflict in space, and to protect USSPACECOM assets, Launchspace Technologies Corporation proposes to develop enhanced sensor capabilities to detect the evolving threat and facilitate the dynamic ability to relocate our space-based assets to where they can be part of the solution. The Launchspace sensor approach will reduce the burden of reconstituting our orbital capabilities through protective measures. These enhanced sensors, when coupled with on-board edge processing address capability gaps for detecting maneuvering anomalous spacecraft are a critical threat. They meet the goal of delivering only actionable data so that a USSF spacecraft can respond at the speed of conflict. The battle-space awareness benefits of the proposed sensor would directly benefit SSC with the priceless mission impact of preventing strategic surprise. Launchspace will concentrate this SBIR Phase II effort on Space Domain Awareness (SDA), by maturing our enhanced sensor technology to deliver threat data that is timely, relevant, accurate, and actionable. Our sensors will detect, track, and characterize threats that include active and anomalous spacecraft, and lethal non-trackable resident space objects. They are coupled with the capability to do on-board processing of images, that can enable USSF assets to autonomously maneuver out of harm’s way. Launchspace’s proposed sensor solution, is part a patented hybrid sensor architecture for all-domain SDA.
