Research abstract

Fluidic systems in aerospace applications require reliable and secure fittings to ensure proper sealing and prevent leaks under high pressure conditions. Commercially available fittings face challenges in achieving accurate torque application, lack vibration resistant features, and do not provide visual, tactile, or auditory indication of proper installation. This leads to system failures from improper torquing, post-assembly inspection limitations, and vibration loosening. To address these challenges, the proposed solution incorporates a torque-limiting feature that provides clear feedback once the fitting nut reaches proper installation torque and eliminates the risk of over-torquing. Vibration resistance is also integrated in the torque-limiting feature to lock the nut to the fitting body once installation torque is reached. By addressing the limitations of traditional fittings, our solution meets the customer's needs for enhanced reliability, torque verification, and installation confirmation, with the added benefits of physically limiting application torque and providing on-the-spot tactile and auditory confirmation of proper installation.
