Research abstract

Ombra proposes the Secure Management and Access of Real-time Traffic (SMART) system, a comprehensive solution designed to enhance traffic management and security at Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA). SMART leverages advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), geolocation services, and a variety of traffic sensors such as inductive loop, microwave radar, and infrared sensors. These technologies will enable real-time data collection and analysis, optimizing gate usage and directing traffic efficiently. The system's core capabilities include predicting traffic patterns with supervised learning models like regression and classification, identifying anomalies with unsupervised learning techniques such as clustering and anomaly detection, and optimizing gate operations using reinforcement learning algorithms like Q-Learning. Geolocation data will be integrated to provide dynamic routing based on real-time conditions. SMART's cloud-based architecture ensures flexibility, scalability, and secure data processing, while the web-based dashboard provides operators with intuitive tools for managing access requests and monitoring traffic. Additionally, a virtual visitor’s center will streamline entry processes through remote prescreening and real-time traffic updates. The Phase I effort aims to validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the SMART system, setting the stage for broader deployment and enhanced operational efficiency at military installations in Phase II.
