Research abstract

Modern warfare relies on networked assets communicating key information that provides situational awareness, coordination, and targeting data which allow coordinated actions and awareness across the fleet.  As the number, type, and origin of different platforms all communicating on the network has grown and diversified, the opportunity for some contributors on the network to mis-communicate, and even degrade communications between fleet participants, has accelerated as well.  The topic to provide monitoring and protection from non-compliant and aging software is extended here to provide real-time network traffic monitoring to understand the impacts of various network participants and provide awareness, mitigation, and repair options to the operator. The impetus to detect, mitigate, and even resolve these impacts is obvious, but the assessment of fleet commanders like Philip Davidson, former chief of the UN Indo-Pacific Command, highlights the need to rapidly develop and deploy services to address these challenges.   IDT proposes to tailor its Automated Test and Re-Test (ATRT) Analysis Manager (AM) in conjunction with our Recording, Extraction, Automated Playback, Event Reconstruction Warfare Systems (REAPER WS) services for automated analysis and after-action assessment of Link16 communications across a diverse range of fleet participants, and transforms that technology into a near real-time decision aid and impact assessment services to identify platforms contributing non-standard communications, provide operators guidance to mitigate the impacts, and addresses repair or partial repair to get the most information possible from non-standard communications.
