Research abstract
To meet the challenging requirements of SBIR topic N241-059, Photonic Systems, Inc. (PSI) has invented a new -- never previously proposed -- set of analog-domain hardware that preserves low-power signals of interest while suppressing high-power interference signals so that their power is well below that of the SOIs at the output of the receiver front end. The 6-month "Base" portion of Phase I of the proposed SBIR program will include a benchtop demonstration of this innovative wideband interference cancellation hardware as it suppresses as many as four high-power interferers while preserving one or more low-power SOIs. The center frequencies and bandwidths of the interferers and SOI will be adjusted in real-time, and we project that the interference canceller will automatically adjust to these changes in well under 1 microsecond, possibly in as little as 100 nanoseconds. In the 6-month Option portion of Phase I, the canceller will handle 10 high-power interferers with this same level of performance. The hardware's insertion loss, noise figure and spurious-free dynamic range will be measured across its operational bandwidth, which we plan to maximize in Phase II of the program with the ultimate goal being 20 GHz, which is wider than that of any efficient receiving antenna.
