Research abstract

Program Objective: The primary objective of this program is to realize a National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) compliant, low-cost, U.S.-manufacturable Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) command-and-control (C2) link for the Peregrine loitering munitionľand to deliver 2-5 integrated Peregrine sUAS for field testing at the Air Force Autonomy Proving Ground (APG). The C2 link aims to maintain compatibility with existing and experimental Air Force systems and can be optionally integrated into the Peregrine motherboard to lower cost.á Effort Description: Neros Technologies, a venture-backed startup, is pursuing this objective using a systematic and iterative approach to design, testing, and refinement. The process begins with software integration with the Peregrine Flight Computer, followed by modifications to the mechanical design to accommodate the C2 module. The program emphasizes maintaining drone-component compatibility with existing and experimental Air Force autonomy front-end systems, and provides for extensive Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Testing to ensure seamless integration between these systems, the Flight Computer, Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) motor driver, and C2. The process is repeated until the system fully integrates and meets requirements. A strong aspect of the program is the inclusion of on-site support for field testing: AI front-end optimization, envelope expansion testing, function testing, and performance evaluation. The presence of the supervisory, design, and engineering team during testing provides maximum benefit for AFWERX and maximum feedback for Neros. The work plan explores potential pitfalls and provides time for an agile approach that minimizes risk. Neros Technologies is committed to achieving a performative UAS C2 link for Peregrine loitering munition, ultimately advancing our mission to build technology that keeps people off the battlefield by demonstrating the technical feasibility of an NDAA-compliant, U.S. manufactured small loitering munition that offers: low-cost, mass-production, portability and ease of deployment; compatibility with existing and experimental Air Force autonomy payloads
