Research abstract

With the rise of mega-constellations and destructive anti-satellite weapons testing, commercial solutions to photometric fingerprinting and attitude change detection are imperative to enable continued custody of potential threats in low Earth orbit (LEO).  Existing commercial capabilities, e.g., radar installations and narrow-field-of-view electro-optical sensors, are unable to provide these capabilities at scale. To meet this challenge, Slingshot Aerospace proposes Rapid Analysis of Photometric Tracks for space Object identification and behavior Recognition (RAPTOR), a suite of capabilities that will leverage the world’s only large-scale photometric data source for LEO space domain awareness (SDA). This data is generated by Slingshot’s ultra wide-field-of-view (UWFOV) ground-based-optical sensor systems, and our artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) platform will harness it to digitally fingerprint spacecraft, establish patterns of life, and enable indications and warning.
