Research abstract

Adversaries have fielded Anti-Access/Area Denial (A2/AD) capabilities in large numbers over recent years. These systems constrain where manned USAF platforms can operate without an unacceptable risk of pilot or platform loss. The USAF requires the ability to penetrate such contested environments without risking the loss of high-value assets or personnel. The conflict in Ukraine has proven that inexpensive, often commercially available, Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) can perform a variety of missions that would have traditionally been performed by manned aircraft. To perform their mission in highly contested airspace, the USAF requires large numbers of unmanned systems capable of overwhelming an adversaries' defenses while being so numerous that losses can be accepted.á Wilder Systems proposes the Oblique Wing Launched Effect (OWLE) family of systems. Wilder Systems has conceptually sized three OWLE systems in the group 2, 3, and 4 UAS category. OWLE is being developed using a manufacturing and supply chain-first design philosophy to enable rapid scaling of production across the US industrial base. This proposal details the characteristic of the OWLE configuration and the TRL raising activity to be conducted under this phase II effort. Multiple OWLE demonstrators will be developed prove manufacture processes and prove the feasibility of the full-scale OWLE system.áá
