Research abstract

Barrow Green is proposing to develop a zero-GWP, ultra-high efficiency Improved Environmental Control Unit (IECU) that will propel the Army into regulatory compliance and substantially reduce the energy demand on the tactical micro-grid. To get there, we will first build, and field test, a 1:10 scale version of the standard 9K IECU. By incorporating our revolutionary elastocaloric coolingĀtechnology, this system will meet or exceed 264W cooling capacity, 20░C temperature drop, and COP of 3.0, more than doubling the current IECU efficiency. By starting with a 1:10 scale product, Barrow Green will be ideally positioned to commercialize the technology in the personal cooling device market to gain a stable revenue stream for further development.
