Research abstract

To address the US Army need for a safe, high energy density battery, Soelect is developing composite lithium metal anodes and solid polymer electrolyte. The composite lithium metal anode offers the advantage of higher energy density compared to graphite anodes. Solid electrolytes allow for more flexible design and improve safety in the battery, removing the flammability risks associated with the solvents in liquid electrolytes. These materials will be combined with a high voltage spinel cathode to make a battery suitable for deployment by the US Army. By the end of Phase I, Soelect will deliver coin cell format batteries thatĀdemonstrate stable cycle life with high capacity retention and identify the best contacts for proceeding to Phase II.
