Research abstract
Identification and Significance of the Problem &Opportunity: The Department of Air Force has a tactical/operational ISR-radar capability/capacity gap that is growing due to the retirement of platforms. The commercial space industry has spent over $600M developing radar satellites for remote sensing of the earth that can be utilized to fill the gap, but traditional commercial/government radar processing takes too long for operational and tactical timelines. Over the last three months in conversations with a variety of customers/end-users it clearly apparent an opportunity to do better & cheaper and fill this gap with a modified commercial processing system that utilizes Artificial Intelligence processing methods to dramatically reduce processing timelines. Introduction to Problem/Opportunity: The Air Force has current and future ISR capability gaps that are growing larger and more expensive. The effective use of commercial data sources can be beneficially leveraged to address these gaps. This proposal outlines a strategic research initiative to develop new Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) aimed at reducing the sensor-to-shooter timelines for the United States Department of Defense (DoD). The initiative leverages commercial Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite capabilities in partnership with the Michigan and California National Guards during the live military exercise known as Northern Strike. Objective: The primary objective is to harness the power of commercial SAR data to demonstrate new TTPs that can significantly expedite the processing and dissemination of space-based data, ensuring real-time, over-the-horizon targeting capabilities and begin to cost-effectively close Air Force Operational and tactical ISR capability gaps. This initiative is designed to address current challenges in operational timelines and enhance decision-making processes for Airmen in the field by using our proprietary commercial radar signal processor and processing algorithms to greatly reduce timelines to meet Air Force requirements for operational and tactical ISR. á
