Research abstract

Over the past 3 years, Gaardtech has developed a forward deployed combat robot named the Jaeger for the purpose of targeting enemy formations, positions and shaping enemy forces prior to engagement with human Soldiers. ĀThis platform combines powerful onboard computing for edge decision making and operations in a number of control relationships with the Soldier. ĀThe Jaeger is capable of a wide range of mission profiles such as Delay, Deter, Deny and Destroy. ĀIt is also capable of being forward positioned and left to operate independently. ĀA number of target detection methods are employed within the Jaeger to ensure reliability and trust in intelligence feeds which are generated by the Jaeger over long distances (300km+ without relays or sat-link). The Jaeger is a consumable combat robot which conducts terrain shaping in front of the FLOT, out into the deep battlefield/enemy FLOT. ĀAs the Jaeger can operate autonomously, it offers a number of benefits such as providing combat mass, loitering capability and low cost per unit. Ā ĀMoreover, Jaeger's have the ability to move in response to enemy movements generating surprise and shock effect on enemy forces. ĀFinally, Jaegers are extremely lethal with significant impact on enemy combat effectiveness through force destruction due to the optional onboard payloads (upĀto 50kg of comp B with EFP arrays). ĀĀ As an autonomousĀunmanned ground vehicle, the Jaeger removes the necessity of direct human employment while providing real-time battlefield reporting making it especially useful in deep terrain shaping. ĀIt can provide surveillance 24/7 regardless of weather conditions and can loiter up to 30 days and beyond when fitted with solar recharging capability. ĀJaeger's top speed is 60km/h allowing it to chase down enemy AFV/MBT it identifies. ĀIt is currently armored to withstand up to .50 cal ammunition from the front and 7.62mm ammunition from the sides. ĀIts relatively small size also makes the Jaeger incredibly hard to see from an enemy perspective.
