Research abstract
The DAF is focused on the integration of advanced training technologies, including AR/VR/MR, with the goal of transforming Air Force learning and readiness. the DOD needs proprietary platforms and programs to modernize training systems. Although immersive 3D experiences are in high demand, they are difficult to produce and distribute at scale. Development costs are high and there is a lack of skilled talent to develop them, such as programmers and engineers. More specifically, We identified that the Air Force Medical Modeling and Simulation Training (AFMMAST) has a national Defense-related mission need in the area of Information Technology/Extended Reality (AR/VR/MR) specifically to provide transformational strategic capabilities to improve medical training by adding hyperreality and high fidelity content through the Medical Education & Training Campus (METC) Tri-Service Campus, located at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, San Antonio, home to the Biomedical Equipment Technician program that provides training to the Air Force, Army, and Navy biomedical equipment technicians. á Due to the complexity of this training, the program conducts approximately 13 Air Force iterations per year. Over a 42-month period, the attrition rate was 10.6%, with 6.2% being for academic-related reasons. As such, there is a huge need to introduce innovative technology, including advanced reality technologies into the training curriculum. To enhance this goal, and working closely with the AFMMAST team, the Alamo Spark team, part of the 59th Training Group at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, are very interested in using virtual reality technology to allow students to train with equipment they normally wouldn't see at METC, either due to scarcity, implicit dangers, or expense to maintain.á EducationXR is responding to the DAF's transformation in learning and readiness with its cross-platform immersive authoring platform, including and AI Creator Assistant tool and an intuitive interface for 3D content creation and consumption for all devices: computers, phones, tablets and VR/MR/AR headsets. Our technology will help organize, train, and equip AFMMAST to carry out all training operations required to fulfill their DAF missions.á We feel the DAF has a need to deliver immersive, individualized, and tailorable instructional curriculum via implementation of flexible remote learning options for maximum effective mission readiness. After discussions with various AF stakeholders, we understand that the adaption of the EducationXR platform would be a perfect fit for AFMMAST. Staff Sgt Sara Bleeker, 92nd Medical Group Biomedical Equipment Technician with the 59th Training Group has agreed to be our end-user.
