Research abstract

To address the Space Force's need for automation in Digital Engineering to design and manufacture new satellites faster than ever before, Proteus Space (Proteus) is developing a new Rapid Automated Satellite Design (RASD) Digital Engineering solution, enabling all-trade space exploration of any combination of payload, mission and subsystems, providing 18x faster satellite designs, 6x faster manufacturing, and catalyzing the USSF ability to conduct high fidelity Modeling and Simulation (M&S) for Futures, Force Design, Campaign and Mission Planning. RASD uses explainable Machine Learning (ML), cloud computing, and fully automated, Human-On-The-Loop Digital Engineering software to provide connectivity, direction, interoperability, and abstraction to standard industry tools. In Phase II, Proteus will successfully develop, test, and demonstrate fully functional (TRL-6) RASD system modules in a realistic environment, demonstrating accurate structural designs and Design For Manufacture & Assembly (DFMA) optimized designs given any ESPA-class satellite payload, mission, and set of subsystems.
