Research abstract

Base ($63,305):Ā Communication is the backbone for coordinating the movement, distribution, and delivery of personnel and materiel. In military operations, logistics ensures that troops are supplied with the necessary ammunition, equipment, and provisions to sustain their missions. Effective communication is the linchpin that holds the intricate web of logistics together, ensuring resources are delivered where and when needed, even against adversarial efforts to disrupt operations. Maintaining Command, Control, and Communications (C3) in a Contested, Denied, and Operationally Limited (CDO-L) environment presents challenges. Adversaries employ tactics, from Electronic Warfare (EW) to cyber-attacks, aimed at disrupting communication channels. These tactics can degrade the ability to transmit vital information, coordinate movements, or relay commands, hindering operational effectiveness. The loss or compromise of communication channels can lead to confusion, delayed responses, and catastrophic failures, especially in hostile territories.Ā Additional challenges include: Ensuring real-time communication and data flow is crucial for commanders to adapt to changing circumstances Need for TRANSEC stealth: It is essential to communicate without revealing one's position or intentions to the adversary Ensuring different COMSEC systems work together seamlessly Building redundancy and ensuring the reliability of communication systems The overall objectives of the Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) project are to determine 1) the feasibility of IsidoreÖ Quantum as a Low Probability of Interception/Low Probability of Detection COMSEC and TRANSEC device; and 2) if Isidore meets the OPSEC requirements of the DOD, NATO, and coalition partners. Option ($77,379): As the feasibility study in Phase I concludes, Phase II will deliver a Proof-of-Concept solution. To bridge this transition, the four month Phase I Option focuses on refining the findings from Phase I, initiating critical design work, and laying the groundwork for the robust development activities slated for Phase II.
