Research abstract

To address the Navy’s need for improved data management in for aircraft battle damage repair (ABDR) with limited to no reachback capabilities, RedShred proposes to continue development for Aircraft Battle Damage Repair: Essential Archive for Maintenance (ABDREAM), based on data unsiloing, data synchronization, querying documents using Large Language Models (LLMs), supporting data transfer on distributed networks, and supporting data logging with blockchain. Specifically, the innovation in its unique system design of incorporating advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology, integration of Redshred’s core document processing platform, Redshred, and the novel use of multiple document analysis software modules will enable the system to connect engineers, maintainers, and artisans to information from a home station in a virtual “suitcase” that contains all the necessary data for them to perform any needed repairs. As a result, this system offers to meet such specifications as ??intelligent understanding and organization of data in documents, overcome challenges related to document access, and lead to marked improvements in operational efficiency and effectiveness, which directly address the program  requirements for maintaining naval aviation readiness by performing maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of aircraft and components and providing critical data and information needed for ABDR. In Phase II, plans to create datasets from ABDR related material, perform requirements analysis, improve data transfer rates, synchronize maintenance data across multiple sites, allow users to retrieve past repairs and analyze future repair information via chatbot, demonstrate and evaluate the performance of ABDREAM, create improved communication procedures between ABDR teams and Fleet Readiness Centers (FRCs) / Fleet Support Teams (FSTs), and improve logging of repairs with blockchain technology.
