Research abstract

This Phase I SBIR proposed to develop high performance narrow spectral band MWIR infrared epitaxy materials based on Type II strained layer superlattice (SLS) for Navy applications which require passively detecting optical emission at known spectral lines. We intend to develop HOT MWIR SLS infrared detectors which demonstrate tunable resonance wavelength. The focus for the Phase I effort is to develop detector materials be capable of reaching D* > 4 x 1011 Jones for a resonance wavelength of 4.5 Ąm and all polarizations when operated at 200 K. The Phase I option will focus on the feasibility of the dynamic tuning capability by experimentally developing a bias tunable mirror. ĀThe GaSb based epi materials will be grown by IntelliEPI IR with production molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) reactors in a multiwafer growth configuration. We will process single fixed-wavelength narrow-band detector for demonstration.Ā The prototype detector and full detector epi wafers will be delivered to NRL and/or Navy for evaluation.
