Research abstract

PNI Sensor is an American positioning and navigation product and technology company that provides highly accurate, precise position and navigation data to systems by using sensors, AI and ML (Machine Learning) sensor fusion algorithms.Ā PNI Sensor proposes to provide the A-FORT (Assured Field Ops Remote Tracker)Śa self-contained, ultra-low SWaP-C inertial sensor module that uses AI and ML algorithms to provide Latitude and Longitude without GPS or any other external source of location reference.Ā Relying solely on the planetary physics of the Earth itself, A-FORT cannot be occluded, jammed, spoofed or caused to fail in any other way. A-FORT only uses a gyroscope, accelerometer, magnetometer and pressure sensor.Ā With PNIÆs AI and ML algorithms, the EarthÆs rotational rate can be measured with the gyroscope and the EarthÆs gravity can be measured with the accelerometer.Ā Latitude can be determined directly from the angle between the gravity and EarthÆs rotational vectors. Knowing A-FORTÆs Latitude, Longitude can be determined with declination, inclination and magnetic field measurements as referenced to Geographic North.Ā This proposed solution would be the first inertial system that directly measures Latitude and Longitude without any externally provided reference. This is made possible with PNIÆs low-noise, high-sensitivity magnetometers and PNIÆs AI and ML algorithms that are applied to the sensor data that PNI works with day in and day out.Ā AI and ML are perfectly suited to extract the infinitesimally small signals amidst the messy inputs of inertial and magnetic measurements.
