Research abstract

Fourth State Communications’ Enhanced Thermo-Scatter System (ETSS) capability is the high-speed (200MBPS), omnidirectional, low-cost, resilient over-the-horizon (2000 miles) communications solution allowing the Air Force and it's Global Strike Command to have complete backhaul link ownership with limited infrastructure investment in support of Redundant Non-Satellite Beyond Line of Sight Communications Backhaul in Support of Air Force Operations. The system consists of a High-Frequency (HF) Pump able to manipulate the Thermosphere in order to make it reflective to HF, Very-High Frequency (VHF), and Ultra-High Frequency (UHF) communications signals. Due to the altitude of this reflective layer, the ability to transmit and receive communications over 2,000 miles can be achieved. Field tests have shown that communications links can be established over 2,000 miles in diameter utilizing Field Aligned Irregulates (point to point) and with the enhancements gained in support of the Air Force SBIR the ETSS will gain full network omnidirectional capability. Fourth States effort will be to modify the existing ETSS to allow full networking capability in support of 20th Air Force and Global Strike Command.
