Research abstract

The key to achieving a modernized, advanced, transportable communications in a ground entry point (GEP) architecture, particularly in the presence of disruptions, is rooted in efficiency and flexibility:Efficiency – performance and capability in minimal SWAP-C (size, weight, power, cost) with high reliabilityFlexibility – ability to scale and adapt to any orbital, environmental, or digital regime This proposal details how ThinKom’s Digital Array fully and reliably maximizes both efficiency and flexibility to create a multi-purpose system that provides simultaneous links while also being highly transportable, secure, resilient, and survivable. This Digital Array will be integrated into a hide-in-plain-sight standard shipping container (Conex) that is deployable and capable. Some key attributes of the transportable GEP include:Multi-beam, multi-orbit, multi-network, multi-constellationReal-time dynamic digital beamformingNo active or liquid cooling nor auxiliary power stations/trucks requiredLow real estate utilizationEasily transportable and quickly deployableModular, reconfigurable, expandableHigh MTBF reliabilityWaveform agnostic (wide IBW, hopped or spread waveforms) This Direct to Phase II effort will also show how this transportable GEP, which can act as either a gateway/ground station or a terminal, responds in the presence of disruptions (blockage, interference, jamming, or attacks) through the use of multiple phased arrays within a Conex container and between multiple Conex containers to demonstrate software-defined resilience and real-time adaptability.
