Research abstract
This project, "SyncPath," will develop and demonstrate an innovative ultra-low-latency, resilient multipath communication protocol designed for contested military and hybrid SATCOM environments. The core objective is to advance a prototype from Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4 to TRL 6 over a 24-month period. The SyncPath protocol leverages an existing multi-edge, decentralized architecture used successfully in the commercial sector, to intelligently route mission-critical data across multiple disparate communication links simultaneously, ensuring high availability and minimal delay. The prototype will integrate two best-in-class technologies: a zero-trust cybersecurity framework to protect data and an advanced Resilient Packet Recovery system utilizing Forward Error Correction (FEC) to ensure data integrity and prevent loss in degraded conditions. The SyncPath technology will be developed as as an SDK and integrated on existing MILSATCOM radio hardware. Testing will be conducted in a wireless lab facility, using tactical communication scenarios to prove the system's effectiveness in reducing latency, enhancing security, and guaranteeing data delivery for faster, more reliable decision-making in the field.
