Research abstract

Leveraging the successful proof-of-concept hybrid pseudocapacitor technology demonstration, ADA will further develop and optimize the technology and demonstrate it in prototype cells with high specific energy density (> 50 Wh/kg), high specific power and long cycle life under environmental conditions (-40 to +80 degrees C) specific for AF spacecraft applications. Our Phase II approach centers on the development of multifunctional coatings on high surface area carbon to provide increased specific capacity and energy and to improve power capability and life cycle performance. Efforts will be made to optimize pseudocapacitor processes and the functionalities of cell components, including the electrolyte. Phase II will culminate with the demonstration of the advanced hybrid pseudocapacitor technology in large format, prototype cells.
