Research abstract

AssetLink Global, in partnership with Applied Research Associates, Inc., will leverage several mature and demonstrated technologies to develop the ArmorPulse solution to provide real-time, reliable data transport from Wheeled Tactical Vehicles and other field-deployed vehicles to centralized command posts and platforms. Currently, engine maintenance and status data is collected using the Source Data Collector–Rugged (SDC-R) and visualized through tools like Army Vantage; however, data transport relies on WiFi offloading at motor pools after vehicles return from the field, limiting timeliness and efficiency. Additionally, existing technologies lack the ability to monitor broader sustainment needs, such as ammunition levels. To achieve Predictive Logistics and shift from reactive to proactive sustainment, real-time data transport is critical, particularly in challenging environments and across vast and unpredictable operational areas. The lack of real-time data leads to interrupted operations, slowed tempo, and overcompensating with oversupply or over-maintenance. ArmorPulse will address these challenges by delivering reliable, real-time data links, empowering commanders to collect, analyze, and predict sustainment needs proactively, enabling decision certainty. This capability improves operational pace and provides leaders with the time to understand, visualize, and plan effectively, avoiding reactive and urgent responses to unanticipated supply and maintenance issues. The ArmorPulse solution links field vehicles to central Army data systems through three key layers: (1) Platform (Vehicle) Layer: Integrates SDC-R engine maintenance data, fuel stock monitoring, ammunition counters, and other vehicle instrumentation with embedded intelligence to extract relevant data from vehicles at the right time, triggered by schedules or alerts; (2) Data Transport Layer: Utilizes multi-pathway global data transport through complementary commercial satellite networks, following a PACE (Primary, Alternate, Contingent, Emergency) plan approach to provide redundancy and reliability; and (3) Middleware Layer: Normalizes and prepares data for ingestion into DoD systems within secure frameworks that are ready for assimilation within DoD networks, offering a unified API to the Army regardless of the data transport method.
