Research abstract

To address the Army’s need for secure and efficient wireless data transmission for predictive logistics, Intellisense Systems, Inc. (Intellisense) proposes to develop the Adaptive Information Secure Transmission with Autonomous Prioritization (AIRTAP) system. AIRTAP is based on a new design that integrates advanced wireless communication technology, adaptive data management algorithms, and ruggedized packaging, leveraging mature components and commercial off-the-shelf technologies. Specifically, the innovation in radio-frequency system-on-chip (RFSoC)-based multiband multiple-input multiple output communication, adaptive data prioritization, and advanced compression techniques enables the AIRTAP system to provide secure, long-range (1 to 50 km) data transmission, prioritize mission-critical information in real time, and optimize bandwidth utilization under contested conditions. As a result, the AIRTAP system offers robust long-range communication, enhanced data security compliant with Federal Information Processing Standards Publication 140-3, and seamless integration with existing Army platforms such as Digital Source Collector-Ruggedized and Army Vantage. These features directly address the Army’s requirements for transmitting predictive logistics data securely and efficiently in challenging environments. The feasibility study has demonstrated the scientific and technical soundness of the AIRTAP system. Rigorous analyses confirmed the ability of the RFSoC platform to support long-range communication with low probability of interception and detection. The adaptive data prioritization framework effectively handled critical and noncritical data with minimal bandwidth requirements, while encryption protocols ensured compliance with Army cybersecurity standards. In Phase II, Intellisense will refine and enhance the AIRTAP system through the development of mature prototypes for integration with Army vehicles. Key tasks include finalizing system architecture, optimizing algorithms, and designing ruggedized packaging to meet size, weight, and power constraints and MIL-STD-810 standards. The system will undergo rigorous laboratory and field testing to validate its performance, including long-range data transmission, resilience in contested environments, and seamless integration with Army platforms. The effort will culminate in a final demonstration to showcase the system’s operational capabilities, paving the way for transition to Phase III and full deployment.
