Research abstract

Colvin Run Networks proposes the development of SHIELD-C (Security Harnessing Immutable Encrypted Ledgers and Data Capsules), an advanced data security solution designed to meet the Navy's critical need for secure and resilient data management in disrupted, disconnected, intermittent, and low-bandwidth (DDIL) environments. SHIELD-C integrates Secure Data Tethering with a permissioned Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) to enforce Zero Trust principles at the data level, independent of traditional network or application controls. This approach aims to ensure the integrity, access control, and limited distribution of sensitive information across any device or network. Phase I will focus on establishing the technical feasibility of SHIELD-C, leveraging Colvin Run's expertise in blockchain technology and data security to develop a middleware layer and a disconnected security module, the Zero Trust Data Capsule, tailored to Navy operations.
