Research abstract

The RAGTIME (Retrieval-Augmented Generation and Transformation with Integrated Modernization and ETL) project aims to revolutionize the data management and acquisition processes for the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) by developing a reusable ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipeline. This RAGTIME pipeline composes data to be RAG-ready, significantly enhancing the capabilities of AFRL’s existing workflow automation systems, an AI-assisted automated acquisition workflow. Leveraging the expertise of Trenchant Analytics Company (TAC) and Colvin Run Networks, the project conducts research that focuses on addressing critical data inefficiencies, handling unstructured data, improving integration, reducing duplication, and enhancing the speed of contracting and acquisitions.RAGTIME ensures that data is accurate, complete, and free from inconsistencies, thereby improving its usability for advanced analysis and AI applications. By transforming and standardizing data, the ETL pipeline will enable seamless integration with AFRL systems, facilitating better data analysis, decision-making, and operational efficiency. The project will utilize advanced data transformation capabilities to clean, normalize, and semantically structure data, ensuring it meets the required standards for accuracy and consistency.Key components of the project include developing a new connection and automation module, conducting comprehensive risk assessments, and implementing stringent security protocols to efficiently prepare RAGTIME to attain an Authority to Operate (ATO) status. The ETL pipeline is designed to scale seamlessly, handle diverse data sources, and provide intuitive, user-friendly interfaces to ensure widespread adoption. The ultimate goal is to create a robust, efficient, and secure data ecosystem that supports AFRL's acquisition processes and aligns with the Department of Defense's (DoD) data strategy and cybersecurity standards.By leveraging the extensive experience of Colvin Run Networks and TAC in data transformation, AI, and machine learning, the RAGTIME project delivers a solution that addresses current challenges and positions AFRL for future success in an increasingly data-driven environment. The project underscores the commitment to utilizing state-of-the-art tools and methodologies, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and continuous improvement to orchestrate meaningful change for the Air Force.
