Research abstract

The POLARIS project aims to address critical challenges in transitioning Space Domain Awareness (SDA) basic research algorithms into operational use within the United States Space Force (USSF). The proposed solution provides a comprehensive, validated simulation environment that seamlessly integrates high-fidelity simulations with diverse real-world data sources, enabling robust evaluation of SDA algorithms. POLARIS leverages existing high-fidelity space and electronic warfare simulators, as well as a multi-domain C2 algorithm comparison framework, to create a unified platform for researchers to thoroughly test their algorithms under operational conditions. The system significantly reduces costs and risks associated with transition through its software-in-the-loop simulation framework and easy integration into hardware-in-the-loop testbeds. POLARIS establishes a standardized method for testing and evaluating SDA algorithms, ensuring their smooth transition from research to operational deployment. The framework automatically evaluates candidate algorithm performance against USSF technology transition processes and requirements, further reducing risk and confusion with algorithm transitions. The Phase I effort focuses on developing a POLARIS prototype, integrating specific SDA algorithms, and ensuring compliance with USSF transition requirements.
