Research abstract

The proposed solution will supply unique intelligence and remote detection, identification, and characterization of the minute mechanical vibrations caused by the resident space object (RSO) internal systems. Vibrational detection can diagnose and describe the status of onboard systems, as well as potentially detect and identify normally unknown spacecraft functions. Some examples are, “Proof of life” assessments, ?characterization of onboard power systems?, measurement of electrolytic capacitor vibrations induced by target payload electronic functions,? flow of heat rejection fluid pumps, cryocoolers used for infrared imaging systems, and other internal electro/mechanical operations.? A library of “fingerprints” of satellite operations could be built.
