Research abstract

Public affairs, 16th Air Force information operations (military information support operations (MISO)), and other defense and intelligence missions rely on understanding the full spectrum of information environments, including digital and social media platforms. The fragmented nature of narratives and the capacity of adversaries such as Russia, China, and Iran to cloak themselves, coordinate, and deploy effective influence campaigns against US military missions has become an increasingly significant problem as internet technologies have evolved, particularly with the rapid deployment of generative AI. Graphika dba Octant Data, in conjunction with SRI, proposes to develop a suite of analytics that identify key linguistic markers associated with a narrative and thereby how and why online actors participate in a narrative, including calls to action offline. This capability will give IO planners and operators intelligence in the online domain that they currently do not have.
