Research abstract

In a PH II effort, Global Circuit Innovations (GCI) will continue to perform R&D to develop and deliver form, fit, and function drop-in replacements for two obsolete Circuit Card Assemblies (CCA) P/N: 51517-1160, National Stock Number (NSN) 5998-00-338-7373 used on Weapons Systems: AIRCRAFT, EAGLE F-15; SPECIAL, MISC. GENERAL D035, and P/N: 116145, NSN 5998-01-348-7781 used on Weapons Systems: AIRCRAFT, T-38; AIRCRAFT, T-37, HELICOPTER, IROQUOIS HH/UH-1. These needs were brought to our attention by the Engineering Support Authority (ESA) Mr. Jubal Avalos, DAF 422 SCMS/GUEAB Electronics Engineer, Instruments Engineering Flight, Tinker AFB, OK. The 51517-1160 module is used in every variation of the F-15 warfighter. The Air Force fleet currently contains a total of four hundred thirty-three (433) F-15 aircraft and the ESA has estimated demand of up to fourteen (14) modules per year. The F-15 Strike Eagle is scheduled to continue operating well into the 2030Æs, so sustainment is necessary for an indeterminate timeframe. The 116145 CCA is used in the T-38 Talon and T-37 Tweet twin-engine jet trainers, as well as the ōHueyö UH-1 Helicopter. There are a reported five hundred thirty-eight (538) T-38 aircraft in operation. The T-38 is scheduled to be replaced by the T-7, although this doesnÆt appear likely to commence until 2025. The T-37 was retired from USAF training in 2008. On its way to being phased out, USAF still has a fleet of sixty-three (63) UH-1 helicopters. Demand for this CCA was not provided, but according to Govgistics, over the 4-year period of 2018 thru 2021, average usage is twenty (20) cards per year. In Phase II, GCI will continue to perform reverse engineering to provide form, fit, and function, drop-in replacements that work identically to the obsolete CCAs. This provides these USAF programs with a solution, keeps assets in service, and avoids an expensive and time-consuming system redesign. During the Phase I effort, GCI was able to identify the engineering approach, materials, and schedule to move forward for a solution to be executed in a Phase II contract. GCIÆs solution will potentially prevent a Mission Impaired Capability Awaiting Parts (MICAP) event.
