Research abstract

Multi-Capable Airmen (MCA) requires an innovative approach to training. There is a need for an integrated capability that supports deployed airmen as they perform a wider variety of mission-critical tasks that fall outside of their traditional AFSC, specifically in the technology area of training and aiding content management. Training must be made available to all airmen (as required), regardless of mission type or task, to enable multi-mission performance in deployed, austere locations and ensure seamless, adaptive, and resilient airman performance. Additionally, next-gen immersive training content must be able to be streamed to circumvent security issues surrounding data access and overcoming device management of headsets. This all must be done when network and communications are limited, non-existent, or contested. Air Education and Training Command (AETC) has heavily invested in a new platform, MOTAR, that enables a sharing economy of third-party vendor training applications and a one-stop show for the discovery, delivery, and distribution of training. There is an opportunity to expand the current features and services of MOTAR to support on-demand XR streaming. The proposed solution will enable Airmen to pick up their AR or VR headset, launch MOTAR, access their training, and stream XR training content immediately regardless of the level of network connectivity available to them! This allows airmen to securely train whether they are on base, at home, down range, while deployed, in contested environments, or in austere environments!
