Research abstract

America is a maritime nation, and our national security is dependent upon the ability of our Naval forces to deter and defeat any adversary. To generate a decisive advantage, we must sense, decide, and fight better than the enemy by accelerating decision cycles emphasizing ōleft of the kill chainö performance with secure, survivable, and cyber-resilient networks, systems, and data. An innovative key to obtaining overmatch with shorter decision cycles is the utilization of cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies. Deploying modern data science solutions into Joint and Coalition surveillance systems provides an enhanced common operational picture (E-COP) that facilitates timely and decisive actions for assured mission success. Maritime Tactical Command and Control (MTC2) is one such system that will help Sailors take decisive action well inside an adversary OODA (observe, orient, decide, and act) loop. Mosaic is proud to propose development of the MTC2 ¢ AI Microservices System (MTC2 ¢ AIMS): a set of microservices that builds situational awareness to facilitate rapid decision-making before weapons are employed. There are two primary objectives for this project. First, MTC2 data must be evaluated so a development plan can be created for AIMS microservice integration. Once integration and supplemental development, security, and operations (DevSecOps) systems are in place, the microservices can be finalized and tuned. We will leverage MosaicÆs Data Fuser (TRL 8/9) and existing algorithms for improving threat identification, object route prediction, and anomaly detection using a suite of methods. This flexible plan will expedite smart tactical decision-making by leveraging proven data science tools and methodologies. Integration of the microservices will occur in the Phase I Option Period. AIMS microservice architecture will allow rapid integration of modeling and prediction algorithms into MTC2Æs DevSecOps environment called the Operation, Development, Integration, and Evaluation (ODIE) lab. From path prediction to anomaly detection, we have solutions that enable a data-driven transformation of MTC2 with a smart and agile mechanism to run accurate and automated AI / ML algorithms. AIMS will be a versatile data science solution that will allow continuous integration / continuous deployment (CI / CD) of additional microservices through the implementation of a modern integration process.
