Research abstract
Developing a comprehensive system to ensure the availability of historical maintenance data for NAVAIR aircraft even when operating away from their home stations is a critical endeavor. RADARI aims to enhance the efficiency of maintenance operations, facilitate informed decision-making, and contribute to the overall readiness and effectiveness of naval aviation. At the heart of RADARI lies the establishment of connection to historical maintenance data housed in the DECKPLATE-AIRRS website and database. Leveraging cutting-edge technology, Forge can harness the power of ThingWorx, a Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) software that is highly customizable to develop a versatile and efficient portable maintenance solution for aircraft operations when stationed away from their home bases. One of the key advantages of using ThingWorx is its ability to facilitate predictive maintenance. By leveraging advanced analytics and machine learning algorithms, the system can identify patterns and anomalies within the collected data. This empowers maintenance crews to anticipate potential issues before they escalate, allowing for proactive maintenance actions and reducing downtime. Moreover, RADARI’s customizable dashboards and visualization tools enable maintenance personnel to intuitively understand the data and make informed decisions quickly. Creating RADARI also entails the development of a user-friendly interface accessible through ruggedized tablets or laptops. This interface can provide maintenance crews with real-time alerts, actionable insights, and step-by-step guidance for repairs and inspections. Additionally, the solution can integrate with existing maintenance management systems, ensuring seamless communication and data sharing between different components of the maintenance workflow. In a recent DoD BAA, the summary description was - “The digital transformation of NAVAIR and the Navy is underway. The journey to become a digital organization requires leveraging digital tools to implement fundamentally different business models across the enterprise, including all business, technology development, workforce, and mission operation domains. The digital transformation strategy focuses on providing the digital infrastructure to create an agile ecosystem of accessible data sources, along with visualization and analytic tools, to support a self-service environment to speed mission outcomes. The vision is a digital culture that empowers the workforce to accelerate, innovate, collaborate, develop, and deliver capabilities to meet fleet requirements.” RADARI is a step towards this digital transformation.
