Research abstract

R-DEX Systems (R-DEX) proposes to leverage its proven target classifier framework developed on multiple other DoD-funded projects to demonstrate a groundbreaking capability that will radically improve target identification from seekers on weapons platforms. In Phase I, R-DEX will demonstrate the scientific, technical, and commercial feasibility for the proposed innovation, with a focus on the compressed timelines of a weapons engagement. In addition, in Phase I R-DEX will: (1) perform a system requirements analysis based on the new capability, (2) detail system integration requirements for integrating the new capability directly onboard the weapon, and (3) develop Phase II/III plans for maturing and transitioning this unique capability to the battlefield. In Phase II, R-DEX will: (1) mature the proposed technology for weapons platforms identified in Phase I, (2) perform a series of Phase II verification and validation experiments, and (3) develop Phase III integration plans. This program will result in an innovative capability with numerous benefits, such as improving target identification and target prioritization, enabling Blue aircraft to effectively prosecute targets with increased standoff range, improving autonomous collaboration of weapons systems, and improving sensing nodes for improved battlespace awareness.
