Research abstract

There are limited options to provide the warfighter with a networked, thermally stable digital optic that projects a reticle onto a transparent surface and can withstand weapon shock from a variety of weapon platforms. The solution to this problem will provide the warfighter with multiple bullet drop compensation (BDC) profiles in a single package while integrating into a tactical network to exchange target information and/or ballistic solutions. In Phase I, the Wilcox Industries Corp. (Wilcox) and Kopin Corp. (Kopin) teams will be conducting a feasibility study with the objective of determining the system architecture for the Digital Projection Close Quarters Sight (DP-CQS).  We will be conducting the following trade studies to determine the architecture of the DP-CQS: power trade studies to meet the 72-hour continuous battery run time with a single battery, display technology trades, optical design trades to eliminate light scatter and minimize unwanted color shift, and trades on overall size and weight.  The anticipated deliverables after a 6-month SBIR Phase I are a mutually agreed-upon system architecture block diagram and a system requirements document.
